Advisers, clients back Palin in survey

Hours before the vice presidential debate, Republican candidate Sarah Palin received a vote of confidence from 62% of broker-dealers and registered investment advisers surveyed by the Fidelity Independent Adviser newsletter and Dion Money Management LLC.

They believe Alaska’s governor is better-qualified for the office of vice president; however, 37% of the 3,731 surveyed preferred Sen. Joe Biden, D.-Del., the Democratic candidate.

In a presidential poll, 66% of those surveyed predicted that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., would win the presidential election.

Thirty-four percent of the 3,800 who replied said they favored Barack Obama, D-Ill.

"The people who follow our newsletters tend to be taxpayers, and they are concerned about the tax policy of Obama and Biden," said Don Dion, publisher of Fidelity Independent Adviser.

"[Most of our readers are] wealthier Americans, who tend to favor McCain and Palin."

Mr. Dion is also the president and founder of Dion Money Management in Williamstown, Mass., which manages $700 million in assets.
