Taking financial advice on the road

In September, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors will take financial advice on the road.

The Arlington Heights, Ill-based organization for fee-only financial advisers will join forces with TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. of Omaha, Neb., to launch a year-long bus tour aimed at promoting financial literacy across the country.

From the bus, which intends to make stops in 150 to 200 cities, NAPFA advisers will offer free financial advice to consumers as well as educational workshops at local college campuses and exhibition halls.

“This is our way of taking to the streets with financial literacy,” said Todd Macke, president of Macke Financial Advisory Group Inc. in Fort Myers, Fla. “It’s our way of making a difference, one person at a time.”

The bus, which is being completely paid for by TD Ameritrade, will be “media equipped” to accommodate interviews with local press as well as blogging and uploading of videos to You Tube.

The bus will be staffed by NAPFA advisers in each of the cities it rolls into.

“This will be our imprint,” Mr. Macke said to attendees at NAPFA’s annual general membership conference today in Long Beach, Calif.

“This is our way of having an impact on the country.”

The bus will begin its tour on Sept. 1 in Washington.
